SLC have indicated that they will be making permanent repairs to the Station Rd junction on the weekend 6-7 March. Traffic will have to divert via Hartree Entries Rd.
They are also aware that there is still a stretch of road either side of the ford in Biggar Mill Rd needing repaired. They will do this in a few months time when the water level in the Burn is lower. In the meantime please beware of the potholes!

The Biggar Common Good Fund, which is administered by SLC, holds money which comes from the old Biggar Burgh Council. It currently contains around £32,674 which can be used for projects which benefit the town. An application has been made to South Lanarkshire Council (SLC) by a member of the public to use approximately £8000 of this money to improve the lighting on the path from the steps just past Campsie’s garage to the Boghall estate (shown in red below) by installing four additional lamp posts. In September 2019, SLC assessed the lighting in this area, and found that it did not come up to standards on parts of the path. Since then, the bushes adjacent to Coulter Rd have been pruned allowing more light to fall onto this path. However, some people, particularly those with visual impairment or mobility issues, continue to find it difficult to use this path at night. SLC have indicated that they are unable to fund upgrades to the lighting in this area, although they have agreed to operate and maintain it if installed. Biggar Community Council have been asked to comment on this application and would like to get the community’s views on this. We are therefore running a very short survey to seek your views. If you, or anyone you know, would like a paper copy of the survey please contact [email protected] Biggar Community Council is seeking new members to fill several vacancies, and encourage anyone who is interested in making Biggar the best it can be to apply.
The Community Council works with, and for, the people of Biggar supporting and listening to them as individuals, groups and organisations. It is the main communication link between the town, the Council and other bodies including utilities, services and other national bodies. Biggar Community Council is also in the process of developing a local action plan which will provide evidence of what people in the town would like to see happening over the next few years. The Community Council aims to reflect the sometimes varying opinions of the town. Anyone who lives in Biggar is eligible to join. You just need to care about Biggar and have a few hours a month to spare. People between 16 and 50 are currently under-represented on BCC and applications from this age group would be particularly welcome. As well as full membership, there is the opportunity to get involved as an associate member covering a particular group or issue. Anyone interested in finding out more should contact [email protected]. Or for an application form, contact [email protected] or phone 0303 123 1015. The closing date for applications is 26th February |
