The number of confirmed cases of corona virus in Scotland is increasing. Some people in Biggar are already self-isolating because they have symptoms of this virus, and there will be other cases in our community.
NO-ONE WANTS TO INFECT THEIR FRIENDS OR RELATIVES. DON'T TAKE RISKS WITH THEIR LIVES. It is of the utmost importance that we reduce the pace of spread of this virus so our hospitals can cope with the patients who become seriously ill. The advice given here is designed to reduce the spread and protect our community from being overwhelmed with cases of the virus. THE COMMUNITY ACTION GROUP, WHICH INCLUDES OUR GPs AND PHARMACISTS, WOULD LIKE TO CLARIFY THE LATEST ADVICE AND WHAT IT MEANS FOR OUR COMMUNITY. What is Social Distancing and who should be doing it? EVERYONE should be social distancing: Children, youngsters off school, pregnant women, fit adults and especially the elderly and health compromised Social distancing means that people can still go out for walks in uncrowded areas. When you meet people outside KEEP YOUR DISTANCE - STAY AT LEAST 2 METRES APART and do not make physical contact. It is also important that you WASH YOUR HANDS carefully before leaving the house and upon returning home. If you are over 70, or under 70 with underlying health problems, or are pregnant, then you should ABSOLUTELY AVOID crowded areas such as shops or pharmacies and avoid visiting friends or family, or have them visit you. IF YOU COME UNDER THIS CATEGORY ASK A FAMILY MEMBER OR NEIGHBOUR to collect food, groceries and prescriptions for you so you do not need to enter small enclosed spaces. IF YOU CANNOT ACCESS FAMILY OF FRIENDS THEN PLEASE USE YOUR COMMUNITY ACTION VOLUNTEERS. PHONE US ON 07376 318724 What is Self Isolation and who should be doing it? Self-isolating means staying within your own house and garden and not letting any non-household members into your house. if you have serious underlying health problems then you should self-isolate. If you are showing any symptoms of Coronavirus, you and any family who lives with you MUST Self Isolate. You must self-isolate for 7 days and monitor symptoms. if your symptoms worsen contact your GP or phone 111 for advice. Any family which lives in the same house must isolate for 14 days because they may develop symptoms after you. AGAIN IF YOU HAVE NO LOCAL FAMILY OR NEIGHBOURS WHO CAN HELP PLEASE USE YOUR COMMUNITY ACTION VOLUNTEERS to collect food, groceries and prescriptions for you so you DO NOT LEAVE YOUR HOME. PHONE US ON 07376 318724 Due to concerns surrounding Coronavirus, Biggar Community Council will not be holding its regular monthly meetings until further notice. These meetings are very important because members of the public are welcome to come along to ensure that any discussions and decisions are transparent and fairly reached. Especially important are decisions surrounding the micro-grants which are administered by BCC. We want to ensure that we can continue to make these grants available. For this reason, BCC has agreed that it will temporarily invoke article 10 and suspend articles 7 and 8 of its Core Standing Orders - ONLY for micro-grant application discussion and decisions. This will mean that decisions can be made by members of BCC outwith a public meeting. The same level of consideration of the applications and the same voting conditions will apply. BCC administers 3 Microgrants. Details of these can be found on the Grants page of our website. If you think you, or an organisation you are involved with, has a project which could benefit from a micro-grant then please read the guidance notes before completing the form and returning to us. Note: Core Standing Orders can be read by clicking on the link at the bottom of the "Minutes and Meetings" page of our website. Let’s all be POSITIVE & pull together during this challenging time. Biggar Community Council's meeting on Monday 16th March has been cancelled. We have taken this decision, following medical advice, because of concerns around the spread of coronavirus.
We have been asked by NHS Lanarkshire to share this and request that you feed back to them by 20th March 2020. NHS Lanarkshire pays an annual fee of around £2,500 for inclusion of telephone numbers in the British Telecom Phone Directory (printed and online). NHS Lanarkshire think that most people would go to the NHS Lanarkshire website, or use a search engine like Google if they are looking for a telephone number; or that they would access numbers from NHS Lanarkshire correspondence or leaflets. However, they would like to hear from you. So, the £2,500 question for you all, is: Do you think NHS Lanarkshire should continue to pay British Telecom to be included in their Phone Directory? Please provide your yes / no answer via this link on Survey Monkey to enable NHS Lanarkshire to produce a report https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/PhoneBook/ Please feel free to share this link with others.
