Biggar Community Council (BCC) held a well-attended public consultation event on Saturday, 22nd June in the Gillespie Centre. Attendees were asked to give their views on Health and Social Care and local public and active transport provisions. There was also the opportunity for residents to raise any other issues with community councillors. More than 50 people attended the event, and they were joined by Aileen Campbell MSP, who arrived by bicycle, which was very appropriate for the active transport theme. We have yet to analyse the results, but a wide range of points were made which have given us a better understanding of how the community feels about these issues. We were delighted with the turn-out and would like to thank everyone who took the time to come along. There was a real buzz in the Gillespie Centre during the event as people discussed their ideas. We were particularly pleased that Aileen Campbell found time to attend to find out more about the views of her constituents. Those who were unable to attend, will still be able to give their views using an online version of the consultation which is available HERE. The Community Council will also be taking the consultation to local groups who have a specific interest in these topics. Once the consultation is complete, the findings will be published on the BCC website and will form part of the BCC's input to consultations run by South Lanarkshire Council and Scottish Government. It will also be sent to local councillors, MSPs and relevant public bodies.

We have been asked by the Scottish Ambulance Service to share information about their New Clinical Response Model with members of our Community. The infomation can be read HERE Following a public meeting, Biggar Community Council carried out a survey to gather balanced opinions to understand and report the community's views about the proposal for the new development outlined below. The Community Council has now collated the results and passed them on to South Lanarkshire Council for consideration. On behalf of the Biggar Community, Biggar Community Council registered its objection to the outline planning application for the proposed development. The Conclusion of the Report reads: "The majority of the representations were in opposition to the development proposal with a minority in favour. The primary concerns being Infrastructure capacity (Schools, Doctors etc), Highway issues (volumes and safety) and increased risk of flooding. The BCC urges South Lanarkshire Council Planning Department to take into account all of the concerns raised by Biggar residents who have responded to this survey. On behalf of the Biggar Community, BCC objects to this planning proposal." The full report of the survey results can be found HERE Biggar Community Council is holding a drop-in consultation event at the Gillespie Centre on:
Saturday 22nd June, between 10 am and 3 pm. This short consultation will focus on two topics: Health and Social Care and Public Transport, although there will also be the opportunity to raise other issues with Community Councillors who will be available on the day. The Health and Social Care part of the consultation is being carried out in conjunction with Biggar Wee Oasis, a group set up to look at possible uses for the Bield Day Care Building. The consultation will be about all aspects of health and social care provision locally, not just those affecting older people. It is in response to South Lanarkshire Health and Social Care Partnership carrying out a “scoping” exercise in preparation for formulating their spending plans for the next three years. The Public Transport aspect is seeking views on what public and active transport provision people would like to see, and will allow the Community Council to feed into processes such as the Scottish Government's Scottish Transport Appraisal Guidance process. If you want better buses, need new stations or are craving cycle paths this is your chance to make your views known! Biggar Community Councillors will also be in attendance to discuss any other issues which you feel are of importance to the town. We hope to see you there. |
