Biggar Community Council’s “Celebrating our Community” event will take place on: Saturday 22nd February 2020 from 2 to 5 PM in the Municipal Hall. Please put this date in your diary! There will be stall holders who represent some of our local community groups, including those who have benefitted from Grant Funding from the micro-grant schemes we administer. Refreshments will be available, courtesy of Biggar High School who are fundraising for a trip to the Himalayas. There will also be some entertainment, provided by local community groups. So come along, meet your community councillors, find out about local community groups, find out what funding is available to groups and individuals in the community, have a cup of tea and a cake and some entertainment and have some fun.....IT’S FREE! MONKLANDS REPLACEMENT PROJECT - Update for stakeholders – 10 January 2020 The Board of NHS Lanarkshire has approved a shortlist of three potential sites for a new, state-of-the-art University Hospital Monklands. The shortlisted sites are (in alphabetical order): · Gartcosh · Glenmavis · Wester Moffat All of the sites meet the five site selection criteria, which were shared with the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Sport, Jeane Freeman. Monklands Replacement Project site selection criteria · Must sit within University Hospital Monklands unscheduled care catchment area; · Must be a minimum of 40 developable acres; · Site must have no detrimental impact on adjoining unscheduled catchment areas of hospitals in Lanarkshire, Glasgow or Forth Valley; · Site must be designated to permit appropriate development; · Site must have sufficient road and transport infrastructure to support the development of a major hospital site. The sites at Gartcosh and Glenmavis were previously found to meet the selection criteria prior to an option appraisal process in 2018. The land at Wester Moffat is a new addition to the options for an alternative location for the hospital, and was identified through a public site nominations process run by NHS Lanarkshire. The Awards honour projects that have excelled in terms of design and community involvement/impact. Winners of the My Place Awards are honoured at a reception at Glasgow's The Lighthouse and have a short film commissioned about their project. Winners and finalists are also featured in an exhibition at The Lighthouse. The My Place Awards are a great opportunity to showcase a project's success to the community, stakeholders and funders by receiving much-deserved exposure and media attention. The short film about Bellsbank, the 2019 My Place Award winner, reached over 16,600 people on Facebook and the My Place exhibition at The Lighthouse hosted over 12,300 visitors and built environment stakeholders! HOW TO ENTER Local people can nominate any project they think is special by tagging the Scottish Civic Trust on social media @scotcivictrust or by answering a few questions here.
