This Local Energy Scotland online event is for community organisations in the south of Scotland in areas near wind farm developments. Shared ownership gives community groups the chance to make an investment in a commercially owned renewable energy project. This provides an opportunity for income as well as many other benefits. It’s the Scottish Government’s ambition that all renewable developments should consider, explore, and offer shared ownership opportunities. In this session we’ll introduce you to shared ownership, how it works, and the support available from the Scottish Government’s Community and Renewable Energy Scheme (CARES) that could help you explore opportunities in your area. We’ll have our Shared Ownership Manager and Specialist on hand to answer any questions you have. The event is free but you’ll need to book in advance. The event will be on Zoom and we’ll email you out the details the day before the event. How to bookPlease email Christina Hinds to book your space. Please include ‘Shared Ownership event – February’ in the subject line and remember to include the name of your organisation in your email. to edit.

The competition is a collaboration between the mental health service and New College Lanarkshire, with students from the college creating and submitting innovative logo designs. Eight designs have been shortlisted as part of the work to find a new, vibrant, and engaging CAMHS logo. The winning design will be used on all future communications and promotional materials. The public is now invited to participate in the competition by voting at https://forms.office.com/e/gk8VJPDb9V for their favourite design. Voting will take place online until Tuesday, 21 February. Pauline Izat, general manager, Specialist Children’s Health Services Unit, Health & social Care North Lanarkshire, said: "We are thrilled to be running this competition and are looking forward to seeing the results. “Good mental health is a crucial aspect of children and adolescents' wellbeing, and we believe that the new logo will help to raise awareness and inspire positive change. “I want to express our gratitude to the talented students of New College Lanarkshire who have taken the time to create these amazing designs. “The level of creativity, innovation, and passion shown by the students is truly inspiring, and we are proud to be working with such a talented group of young people.” The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, hosted by Health & Social Care North Lanarkshire, is committed to providing high-quality mental health services to children and adolescents aged 18 and under in Lanarkshire. 15 February 2023 Drawing strength from the recent past: South Lanarkshire IJB publish Annual Performance Report South Lanarkshire Integration Joint Board (IJB) has published its Annual Performance Report for 2021/22 – demonstrating unwavering commitment to care throughout adversity. The document (supported by an animation) has been released at a time when the health and social care staff and partners negotiate well-publicised, unparalleled challenges. Lesley McDonald, Chair of South Lanarkshire IJB says the report is a timely reminder of the inherent strength of South Lanarkshire Health and Social Care Partnership. Ms McDonald said: “First and foremost, we completely understand that many of the challenges facing our services are also the cause of significant frustration and anxiety amongst the public. We are grateful for people’s patience and forbearance as we maintain and direct vital capacity to support those most in need. “Our communities should be absolutely assured that our committed staff and partners continue to do their utmost to keep people safe and to deliver the best care possible in unprecedented circumstances. “Whilst we are very much focused on the here and now, this report is a truly inspirational document to reflect on,” added Ms McDonald. “The rigour and spirit of our Partnership is a golden thread woven throughout the APR’s pages. And that very resilience prevailed despite pressures that have been unrelenting in the last few years. “Over the course of the period, we encountered national challenges around workforce supply, the continued adversity of the COVID-19 pandemic and ever-increasing demand, to name but a few. Yet, in this report, examples abound of improvement and innovation that show that teams have done so much more than ‘just cope’. “As well as deliver safe and effective care, our teams continued to grasp the initiative and have set a national standard of good practice across several fields, also earning a number of awards. “There’s so much to be proud of and we thank our staff and partners for their ongoing commitment.” Soumen Sengupta, Chief Officer of the South Lanarkshire IJB said: “As much as this document is a look at the rear view mirror, the concrete evidence of outstanding achievement and exemplary professionalism is a source of strength and confidence in the extreme and well-publicised challenges of the present time. “The APR also sets the scene for going forward as we endeavour to maintain the wellbeing of the workforce; we continue to invest in key areas to address the increased demand for services, while looking at how to redesign services to maximise the use of resources. “And, in the current context, we remain completely committed to working with local partners in a concentrated and coordinated effort to stabilise and decompress our services, delivering benefits for both local residents and all of our staff.” Mr Sengupta added: “Overall, what’s been achieved – and the ongoing commitment of our staff and partners – equips us well for the present day and bodes well for the road ahead. “These continue to be challenging times for the communities that we serve, which makes the kindness, encouragement and understanding that local people show our health and social care staff all the more appreciated.”

News for our partners January 2023 In your newsletter
For householders struggling to pay their energy bills, there are many organisations that can help with energy bills or payments. We work closely with these organisations and will refer householders to them for fuel vouchers or crisis funds. However, the quickest way to access financial support is directly through other organisations with the expertise to help. If your clients are struggling to top up their meter key or are dealing with debt, issues with their energy supplier or an energy bill discrepancy, our partner organisations can help. Check our list of organisations and funding for more information. Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan Funded by the Scottish Government, the Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan, helps homeowners make their homes warmer, more energy efficient and cheaper to run. Homeowners in Scotland can apply for funding to make energy efficiency improvements and/or install zero and low emission heating, electricity generation, energy storage systems and district heating scheme connections. Grant funding can be taken on its own or alongside an optional interest-free loan. A rural uplift is also available to provide extra support to rural and island homes which can face increased costs to install home improvements. Energy advice near you Our expert energy and funding advice isn’t just available over the phone and by email. Our advisors are out in the community in warm hub venues, libraries, retail stores, and flu/covid vaccination settings offering advice. Householders can drop in for chat with our advisors and get expert advice on ways to save money on their energy bills and learn more about funding support available to keep homes warm this winter. Visit our events page to find an event near you. The page is updated regularly with new events being added. Help us promote our heat pump heroes The Scottish Government’s Heat in Buildings Strategy, published in October 2021, sets out their ambition to help one million homeowners make the switch to zero emissions heating by 2030. This is an ambitious target but it’s an important one if we’re to cut Scotland’s carbon emissions – and Home Energy Scotland is on hand to help. We’re on a mission to raise awareness of heat pumps and encourage their installation – and our heat pump heroes campaign aims to do just that! Our heat pump heroes are homeowners who’ve already transitioned to low carbon heating and want to encourage others to do the same. We’d appreciate it if you could help us raise awareness of heat pumps by sharing information about this campaign with your network. We’ve created a pack to make it easier for you to do this – it includes more information on our campaign as well as ready-made content to include in relevant newsletters or on social media. And don’t forget we offer free training to help you give good advice to householders on life with a heat pump – from how they work and what kind of homes they work well in, to getting to grips with the controls and how to get the best from them. Partnering with Citizens Advice Scotland Keeping on top of energy costs has become a big challenge for many Scottish households, which is why we have teamed up with Citizens Advice Scotland (CAS) to support their Big Energy Saving Winter campaign which runs until 6 February. Householders worried about energy bills and the cost of living are encouraged to seek advice from the CAS network. We’d also love to hear from you if you have an idea and would like to partner with us. Protect pipes this winter With energy bills at an all-time high, many households may be using their heating less than usual this winter. Pipes don’t like the cold, and without the heating warming them up, they’re at risk of freezing or bursting which could lead to unexpected costs and damages. Our blog is full of useful advice for you to share on protecting homes from the cold. New community heat development programme Reducing emissions from our homes and buildings is one of the most important things we can do to help end Scotland's contribution to climate change. That's why the new Community Heat Development Programme, funded by the Scottish Government and delivered by Local Energy Scotland, will work with eligible community organisations and groups of householders to help develop their ideas for locally-generated, low and zero carbon heat project ideas. The aim is to learn how communities and groups of householders can work together to make buildings in their communities more environmentally friendly to heat. Support for community benefits recipients Does your community receive ‘community benefit’ income from a wind farm or other renewables? Are you looking for ways to use that funding to support vulnerable householders through the cost-of-living crisis and build resilience in the face of climate change? If you’re planning an energy advice project or service for your community, we can help with information, resources and advice for your project and for the householders in your community. Visit our website or get in touch to find out more about how we can support your project.
