The Positive Smoke Free Role Model Project – Community Links South Lanarkshire Children living in an area where smoking is prevalent means they are more likely to be affected by the harms of second-hand smoke. Evidence suggests that children who grow up in environments where smoking is the norm are more likely to become smokers themselves – creating the next generation of smokers. This project doesn’t ask people to stop smoking, but instead, we ask that people make small positive changes in their daily live, helping to create a healthier environment for children and young people to grow up in. The PSFRM project aims to reduce the visibility of smoking within the community, by asking people to pledge to become positive smoke free role models – whether they smoke or not. Pledge to make your home a smoke free zone or to talk to your children about the negative impact of smoking and second-hand smoke. Take the pledge today! April is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month, an opportunity to raise awareness of bowel cancer led by Bowel Cancer UK. Being aware of the key symptoms and contacting your GP if things don’t feel right can help increase chances of an early diagnosis. You’re 14 times more likely to survive bowel cancer if it’s found early. The symptoms of bowel cancer can include: · Bleeding from your bottom and/or blood in your poo · A persistent and unexplained change in bowel habit · Unexplained weight loss · Extreme tiredness for no obvious reason · A pain or lump in your tummy Most people with these symptoms don’t have bowel cancer. Other health problems can cause similar symptoms. If you have one or more of these, or if things just don’t feel right, contact your GP. Bowel Screening Test Bowel screening is offered every 2 years to people aged 50 to 74 across Scotland to help find bowel cancer early. It involves taking a simple test at home. The test looks for hidden blood in your poo, as this could mean a higher chance of bowel cancer. If you’re eligible, the Scottish Bowel Screening Centre will send you a free test kit to your home address (this is the address you used to register with your GP). If you have been contacted, please don’t ignore the opportunity to be screened. For more details including a useful video about how to do the test Click here To help raise awareness, a range of materials including posters, leaflets and podcasts are available to download from the Bowel Cancer UK website www.bowelcanceruk.org.uk including the materials attached to this e-mail: · Received one of these in the post? – A poster that can be displayed to encourage people to take the test. · Symptoms Poster - A poster that can be displayed to help raise awareness of bowel cancer symptoms. · What is bowel cancer? – A wallet card explaining what the disease is, who’s at risk and what symptoms to look out for. As the service gets handed over from Stagecoach to Houston’s, Stand Up for our Buses have been heartened to see a continuing constructive and 'can do' attitude to the provision of this lifeline service, Crucially, we have been impressed by how keen Houson's are to communicate and engage with communities along the route. There will, no doubt, be 'bumps in the road' as the new service beds in, but we are hopeful that the early signs of a positive and meaningful relationship evolving between Houston's and communities, will help provide the basis for increased patronage, long-term security for the service and hopefully, in the fullness of time, some service improvements along the way. In the meantime, we'd be really grateful if you could share the following information from Houston's, with your own communities, as best you can. Houston's are all excited to be taking over the 101 / 102 service. We are a small company and things may have been very quiet on our website and social media. We are working extremely hard behind the scenes to ensure a smooth transition of the 101/102. We appreciate that users of the named service are keen to know more about us:
We look forward to transporting you all on the 101 & 102 routes starting 1st April 2023.
