Living Our Best Lives in Lanarkshire The engagement to inform NHS Lanarkshire’s new healthcare strategy ‘Our Health Together’ launches today and gives our communities and those who work in the service the chance to shape how we deliver healthcare for future generations. Now is the time for everyone in Lanarkshire, residents and staff, to play a major role in shaping services for the future and to be involved in discussions about:
To help treat and support those who need healthcare the most we need to maximise what we can provide within our resource. Local residents and staff need to play a vital role in shaping services that deliver modern healthcare. Chris Deighan, NHSL Lanarkshire’s Executive Medical Director, said: “NHS Lanarkshire already delivers positive change for our patients and the local community. “We need to be thinking now about how our services need to change and evolve. When patients interact with our services, this will be in a different way. We will also need our staff to change the way they deliver care. “Our services are under more strain and this means there is a risk that some of our patients will not receive the quality of care we want to deliver. We need to take action to change this now and we want our local population to be involved in this process.” How to get involved? We will be engaging with staff and members of the public between April and June 2023, including two public meetings, one in May and one in June, and we will use the feedback to inform our strategy. We are aiming to have this complete by November 2023. You can find out more about Our Health Together and out how to get involved using the following link: https://www.nhslanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk/our-health-together/ Details on the public meetings will be issued over the coming weeks. Little ‘n’ Lively provides a fun learning experience for families with children aged 0-2 years. Throughout the seven-weeks, sessions explore the importance of play, healthy eating, physical activity, and the great outdoors in raising happy, healthy, resilient children. The programme launched in July 2021 and is accessed through health professional referrals in order to address health inequalities in Lanarkshire. Jonathan Cavana, NHS Lanarkshire’s Senior Health Improvement Manager for the Healthy Lifestyles and Weight Management Service, said: “Little ‘n’ Lively was developed to support families with young children to lead healthy lifestyles. “We are continuing to develop the programme even further and the ongoing early years funding from the Scottish Government has enabled us to support more families across Lanarkshire.” Stephanie Girdwood, Healthy Valleys Early Years’ Team Leader, commented: “We are thrilled to deliver this programme in Lanarkshire. “Little ‘n’ Lively provides a platform for families to come together, share their experiences and explore the ways in which their children learn and develop. The programme focuses on implementing positive experiences in early childhood and the importance of embedding healthy habits at an early age. “Since launching, we’ve had great feedback from parents and carers that they really enjoyed and learned from the sessions as well as meeting other families and making friends.” Ends For further information, contact: Rachel Stewart Senior Communications Officer [email protected] 07816 092052 Fw: Health Improvement Weekly Bulletin - 27th April 2023InboxJane Fraser [email protected] via glow.sch.uk 27 Apr 2023, 15:02 (18 hours ago)Reply

6. Items from BCC. E Mails, and BCC Face Book page: The BCC Secretary has been circulating information arriving on BCC’s e mail to council members and putting relevant items on Facebook and the BCC website. 7. Police Reports – given by PS Richard Durie. Dealt with unruly behaviour and case of house breaking and thief. Asked for people to practice security for there are opportunist thieves about, checking for unlocked doors, open windows etc. All incidents should be reported to the police. The report was as follows: “Biggar Community Council Police Report Police update – 20/02/2023 – 18/03/2003 26 Incidents were recorded by Police Scotland for Biggar. For comparison, in the same period there were 151 incidents recorded for Lanark and 171 for Carluke. 8 crimes were recorded during the above timescale. The crimes were for a variety of offences including Theft by shoplifting, Theft x 3, Offensive/Threatening behaviour x 1, Road Traffic offences x 2 and Housebreaking with intent to steal. At the time of compiling this report 4 of the 8 crimes have resulted in persons being reported to the Procurator Fiscal. The shoplifting was from Spar in Biggar. 2 youths had attempted to purchase alcohol and had been refused. They thereafter distracted staff and stole from within the store. The youths were quickly identified and staff contacted police. Youths were spoken to in presence of parents and issued formal police warning. On the afternoon of 09/03/23 persons forced entry to a property in Moss Side Crescent. They left without stealing anything. This appears an isolated incident and no further attempts have been made since in the area, however, can the community remain vigilant and report anything suspicious to police. We have also received reports of youths causing annoyance in the town centre area during school lunchtime. Additional patrols by police have taken place and no issues have been identified so far. Please don’t hesitate to contact us should you have any concerns or anything you wish to discuss. We can be contacted via email on [email protected] As always, non-urgent matters should be reported via 101, urgent matters via 999. PC Alan Kerr Q1240” The police presence has been raised. It was noted that the advent of free bus passes for youth is resulting in youth from out of town travelling to Biggar to cause trouble. There is a possibility of a police office being established in Biggar to replace the old police station. 8. Reports from South Lanarkshire Councillors. Councillor McAllan reported on the progress of a pedestrian crossing being established on the A702 near Station Road, and on the decorating of the Biggar Close. 9.
