Community Council-Police Report 21/08/2023
Police update – 24/07/2023 – 21/08/2023 35 incidents were recorded for Biggar during this period. For comparison, in the same time period 156 calls were received for Lanark and 217 for Carluke. 9 crime reports were raised – these were in relation to 1 x Assault, 1 x Vandalism, 1 x Breach of bail, 3 x thefts & 3 x Road Traffic matters. It should be noted that there has been an increase within the wider Lanarkshire and surrounding area of thefts by housebreaking. It appears that the persons involved are targeting high value performance vehicles, obtaining keys to the vehicles by way of housebreaking. I would therefore remind everyone to be vigilant and mindful regarding the security of their properties and vehicles, reporting anything suspicious. From my analysis of incidents and crime reports there is nothing to indicate any other specific trends that should cause any concerns to the local community. Please report any incidents to police by either phoning 101 or using the online reporting tool on the Police Scotland website. Biggar Little Cinema News Update No 134 August 2023 Membership for our 2023/24 Season Saturday 28th October 2023 at 7.30pm and Sunday 29th October 2023 at 7.30pm in The Corn Exchange. Doors open at 7.00pm. This truly uplifting film is a story of rediscovery and transformation, a reminder that you’re never too old to take a chance, and that kindness is less rare than you think. The film’s heartfelt story is anchored by poignant performances from Academy Award Winner Jim Broadbent as Harold, alongside Dame Penelope Wilton DBE as his wife Maureen. Retired pensioner Harold Fry lives in Kingsbridge in Devon with his wife Maureen. One day, Harold receives a letter from his old friend, Queenie Hennessy, who is living in a hospice in Berwick-upon-Tweed. He sets off to the post office to send her a letter .... and decides to keep walking - all the way to her hospice, 450 miles away. Along the way, he encounters a variety of people who show him kindness, together with interest in, and support for, his hiking achievement. Membership for our 2023/24 Season Membership for the whole season of six films is available for £40, a saving of £8 on the ticket price. For non-members, tickets for each performance are available from Brownlie's on the High Street or at the door for £8 - tickets for The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry will be available from Brownlie's from the beginning of October.
