Click I hope you are well and don’t mind me contacting you.
I am a volunteer from the charity Guide Dogs. We are seeking volunteers in your area as we have a waiting list of people with sight loss wanting to use our My Sighted Guide service. This service within Guide Dogs sees a volunteer matched up with someone with sight loss to help them live the life they choose. Sometimes it is a weekly walk in the park, to the gym or to visit a different place every week such as a museum. The focus is getting them out of the house and accessing their community and reaching the mutually agreed goals. It is an extremely rewarding volunteer role without a great time commitment; the partnerships usually meet once a week for 2 hours, but it is flexible. Guide Dogs provide all the training required and the staff are there for support. The reason I am getting in touch with the community council is to see if you could help spread the word in your area. Would you be so kind as to do any of the following: -Put up a poster(s), we can post to you. -Read this email out at your meeting. -Have us along for a talk about the service. -Post on social media. -Talk to your neighbours and friends about the role. You can have a look online for more information and a lovely video by clicking on the following link: https://www.guidedogs.org.uk/how-you-can-help/volunteering-for-guide-dogs/volunteer-role-descriptions/sighted-guide/ And if you know anyone interested they can pop your postcode in to apply for the My Sighted Guide role here: https://www.guidedogs.org.uk/how-you-can-help/volunteering-for-guide-dogs/ Please do let me know if you have any questions or you can get in touch with Susan Harrison (My Sighted Guide Volunteer Experience Officer) on [email protected]. If you would rather a phone call or a meeting in person just let me know! Kind regards Colin Teece here to edit.
