The Positive Smoke Free Role Model Project – Community Links South Lanarkshire Children living in an area where smoking is prevalent means they are more likely to be affected by the harms of second-hand smoke. Evidence suggests that children who grow up in environments where smoking is the norm are more likely to become smokers themselves – creating the next generation of smokers. This project doesn’t ask people to stop smoking, but instead, we ask that people make small positive changes in their daily live, helping to create a healthier environment for children and young people to grow up in. The PSFRM project aims to reduce the visibility of smoking within the community, by asking people to pledge to become positive smoke free role models – whether they smoke or not. Pledge to make your home a smoke free zone or to talk to your children about the negative impact of smoking and second-hand smoke. Take the pledge today! For more information contact [email protected] or visit https://www.communitylinkssl.co.uk/psfrm.html Module to Support Pregnant Women to Quit Smoking NHS Lanarkshire’s Quit Your Way service offers free, specialist support to pregnant women, their partners and families who want to quit smoking. To support staff further, the Quit Your Way specialist pregnancy team has launched a new Very Brief Advice (VBA) LearnPro module to support all staff who are able to refer or signpost pregnant women who smoke to Ask, Act and Advise confidently. This training module was developed in consultation with expert clinicians, academics and trainers and takes approximately 30-40 minutes to complete. to Steven, Peter, Alexandra Good Afternoon, AECOM have been commissioned to conduct Active Travel Feasibility Studies on behalf of South Lanarkshire Council for the following areas:
These studies aim to identify existing barriers to cycling and walking for everyday journeys and identify potential improvements to encourage greater uptake of active travel within the areas above and across South Lanarkshire. As part of the studies, the project team have been reaching out to key stakeholders like yourself and local communities to identify the improvements desired locally. The project team wish to identify what is good, bad and what could be improved in the areas and we are hoping that you might be able to share your views via our online survey and through our Placecheck Map where you can post comments on the map and see what comments others have left. The online survey should take only 10 minutes to complete and can be accessed alongside the Placecheck map via the links below: Placecheck Map (all areas): Placecheck Online - Clydesdale Active Travel Online Survey (Area 1. I am a volunteer from the charity Guide Dogs. We are seeking volunteers in your area as we have a waiting list of people with sight loss wanting to use our My Sighted Guide service. This service within Guide Dogs sees a volunteer matched up with someone with sight loss to help them live the life they choose. Sometimes it is a weekly walk in the park, to the gym or to visit a different place every week such as a museum. The focus is getting them out of the house and accessing their community and reaching the mutually agreed goals. It is an extremely rewarding volunteer role without a great time commitment; the partnerships usually meet once a week for 2 hours, but it is flexible. Guide Dogs provide all the training required and the staff are there for support. The reason I am getting in touch with the community council is to see if you could help spread the word in your area. Would you be so kind as to do any of the following: -Put up a poster(s), we can post to you. -Read this email out at your meeting. -Have us along for a talk about the service. -Post on social media. -Talk to your neighbours and friends about the role. You can have a look online for more information and a lovely video by clicking on the following link: https://www.guidedogs.org.uk/how-you-can-help/volunteering-for-guide-dogs/volunteer-role-descriptions/sighted-guide/ And if you know anyone interested they can pop your postcode in to apply for the My Sighted Guide role here: https://www.guidedogs.org.uk/how-you-can-help/volunteering-for-guide-dogs/ Please do let me know if you have any questions or you can get in touch with Susan Harrison (My Sighted Guide Volunteer Experience Officer) on [email protected]. If you would rather a phone call or a meeting in person just let me know! Kind regards Colin Teece here to edit. |
